3. Highway 318 is the longest highway in China. It stretches across the land for 5476 km, from Shanghai in the east coast, to the Tibet/Nepal border in the west. The last 500 km or so cuts through the mighty mountains of Himalayas. We rode on this highway (drop your perception of US highways, as long as a bus can drive through without flipping over or falling down the cliff, it is a highway alright in Tibet :) for one and half day from Lhasa before making a detour to head for the Everest base camp.
The number "4894" on the mileage stone indicates how far (in km) the road has stretched from Shanghai.
4. We met these kids in 拉孜. These are the loveliest kids I met in Tibet. The smaller and less developed the town, the sweeter the children.
