Budapest Hungary - Day 12 13/15

Bus fare from Eger to Budapest: 1360 Ft (US$6.15)

The well-known Red Bus Hostel - a backpackers' haven in Budapest

Finally we came back to where we belong - cheap accommodation. Cost: 2700 Ft (US$12) per person per night

The shared kitchen

Staying in this 6 bed (coed) dorm was definitely memorable, it reminded me my highschool years in UK. Mike swore he heard people making out at night but I didn't hear anything, hmm...

The Blue Danube is really blue!

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge

From the Castle Hill of Buda, looking out over the Danube to the Pest side

The Fisherman's Bastion was built in 1905 on the site of an old fish market (hence the name).

On the other side of Danube is the House of Parliament

The Holy Trinity Square

This pastry shop, which has been here since 1827, is the only one of its kind in the Castle District.

We were told its pastries are among the city's best. But then, lot of things are said to be "among the best", so which is the best?

This building in Pest was built on top of a section of the medieval town wall, which dated back to the 15th century.

Central Market Hall - the largest in Budapest

It houses a wide assortment of fresh-produce vendors.

A store of spices

In the big bowl is Beef Goulash, a typical Hungarian soup. Extremely oily, extremely tasty! The whole meal cost 1620 Ft (US$7.3)

It's time to get some souvenir - yummy goose liver!

Next to the Central Market is the old Customs House, now an university

The statue of Karl Marx inside the lobby

The student lounge

Peter is a volunteer of Food for Children. We talked a bit, and of course we donated a bit for the good cause too.

This tiny shop is a hidden treasure...

It carries a huge collection of badges and pins from the communist era. We hunt them like there's no tomorrow!

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge at sunset

Fresh from the Danube - locals are fishing from the bridge!

This absolutely cool and stylish restaurant serves Asian fusion dishes, with Food Channel type of dish presentation but the price of Denny's. The dish shown cost 1400 Ft (US$6.31)
